Before I accepted Christ in 1969, I was running from God as hard as I could. My plan for my life was to restore classic cars, customize cars, and to spend as much time as I possibly could on the race track, and that’s exactly what I did. Thankfully, God had a different plan!
Since surrendering my life to Christ, God has taken me around the world. I have had the privilege to preach in 49 different nations. He has taken this small-town boy and brought me before world leaders, presidents, and celebrities. With the support of our partners, we have built churches, fed orphans, established missions’ outreaches, and founded Bible Schools to train pastors.
I had no idea what God had planned for me back when I first got saved. And despite all that I’ve experienced in the past, God is calling on me to expand my expectations. In fact, He is calling on you to expand your expectation as well.
The Holy Spirit has instructed me to challenge you to stretch your faith and expand your expectations as we approach this coming new year. Don’t shrink back or settle for something less. God is not intimidated by your highest expectations.
Paul declared, “Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20).
The Amplified Translation says, “Now to Him…that is able to carry out His purpose and do superabundantly, far over and above all that we dare ask or think infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes or dreams.”
God is saying, “If you can think it, I can do it. If you can dream it, I can do it. Not only that, I can do even bigger and better!”
To dare is to challenge to do something that will demand great courage and boldness. God is asking you to not just play it safe. Recently, I heard the Holy Spirit say:
“Tell those wherever you go that regardless of what may be happening in the world around them, it’s time to expand their expectations. If they dare to do this, I will work miracles in their behalf and cause them to experience great and mighty things that others could never imagine happening.”
Don’t let negative circumstances dampen your expectations of God still being able to do great and mighty things on your behalf this year. He always has been able, and He’s still able to do what many will say is impossible.
Jesus revealed, “With God all things are possible” (Mark 10:27). He’s been doing this for me for 52 years now. In fact, since this pandemic began in 2020, He has done “exceeding abundantly above” for me, and I’m not going to start limiting Him now! There’s no limit to what God can do.
I’ll say it again, refuse to play it safe. Will you expand your expectations and defy the odds regardless of how great or vast they may be?
I learned many, many years ago that we can actually limit God through small thinking and negative talking. This is what the children of Israel did constantly. It’s spoken of particularly in Psalm 78. Verses 12-20 says, “…they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness…can he give bread, also can he provide flesh for his people?”
No matter how many times God had proven to them that nothing was impossible for Him, every time they faced another challenge, they began thinking small and talking negatively.
And as a result of being this way, later the Psalmist says in verse 41, “They…limited the Holy One of Israel.”
If their small thinking and negative talking limited Him back then, your small thinking and negative talking will limit Him today.
The story of the Israelites is a good example of what a wrong mindset can do. Don’t let what happened to them happen to you.
Dare to think big, to talk positive, and to expect Him to do greater things in your life than you’ve ever experienced before. Will you accept His dare?
In Paul’s account of the story of Abraham, the Message Translation says, “[Abraham] dared to trust God to do what only God could do… When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do ” (Romans 4:18).
Do you believe that God can do what He said He would do? Even when everybody else is saying it’s impossible?
The scripture goes on to say, “Abraham didn’t focus on his own (body)… and say it’s hopeless. Nor did he survey Sarah’s… and give up. He plunged into the promise and came up strong sure that God would make good on what He had said” (Verses 19-21)
I ask you again, do you accept God’s dare?
I’m accepting His dare. I’ve got some big things on the drawing board, and it’s only through faith in Him that they will be able to be accomplished.
I’M EXPANDING MY EXPECTATIONS AND I’M CHALLENGING YOU TO DO THE SAME.
If you truly believe, then nothing is so big that our God isn’t able to take care of it. His might, His power, and His ability are inexhaustible. When this becomes a revelation to you, then no one, including the devil, will be able to convince you otherwise.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve got some pretty big dreams right now. God has been expanding my expectation. This world needs the truth and the grace of God, and He is calling us to reach more people. We can’t play it safe.
It will take all of us responding in faith and obedience. And even if it looks impossible, God is the master at doing the impossible. Are you convinced yet that nothing is impossible with your God?
Will you join with me in accepting the dare? Will you defy the odds and dream bigger?
